Read: “My Kolkata” for introduction.
Victoria Memorial (in short VM) as the Howrah Bridge was also made during the British Rule. You (who do not know) must be wondering why all these monuments were built during the British Rule? Well, to start off, Kolkata is over 300 year’s old city. It was the city from where The East India Company started its business – of divide and rule.
Victoria Memorial, I guess was the palace of Queen Victoria.
There is an interesting history behind the angel on top of the VM. The angel is supposed to turn 360 degree, but currently it is not working. Recently I read in the newspaper, that the Kolkata Government has requested the UK government to make the angle turn. I guess the British still have some control over Kolkata.
